Bishkek, Feb.5, 2020. /Kabar/. As of Feb.5 the volume of water in Toktogul Reservoir is 13 billion 415 million cubic meters, Kyrgyzstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov said at the meeting of the Republican Headquarters for 2019/2020 Autumn-Winter Period Preparation.

This is less by 1.99 billion cubic meters compared to the same period last year.

"It means the onset of the low water season. In general, we assess the passage of heat deficit period as positive," Boronov said.

Toktogul Reservoir is the largest reservoir not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also in the whole Central Asian region.

It covers an area of 284 sq km and is about 215 m deep on average. The significance of Toktogul Reservoir for the country's hydropower industry is truly invaluable: there are two powerful hydroelectric power plants-Toktogul and Kurpsai.
