Bishkek, Apr. 17, 2020 / Kabar /. An international Media Forum dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan has been held in Ashgabat in the form of a videoconference.
The forum was attended by foreign journalists accredited in Turkmenistan, representatives of the media from more than 20 countries, representatives of local media, as well as heads and representatives of several ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, members of the faculty of a number of Turkmen universities, scientists and experts.
Participants of the media forum noted the importance of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality, and also spoke about their vision of the status of positive neutrality of Turkmenistan, aimed at promoting humane values, achieving progress in the world exclusively through peaceful and constructive dialogue.
Opening the media forum, chairman of the State News Agency of Turkmenistan Bekdurdy Amansaryev noted that this year the Turkmen people will celebrate 25 years from the date of gaining the neutral status of their state.
He said that the neutral status of Turkmenistan is positive in content. “This implies an active position of the state in matters of supporting peace and stability, developing friendship relations, mutually beneficial and equal cooperation. That’s why, Turkmen neutrality is the most acceptable model for the realization of national interests in accordance with the historical, geopolitical, ethno-cultural realities of the country,” Amansaryev emphasized.
Alexandr Kopnov, Deputy Director General of TASS of Russia, noted that the neutrality of Turkmenistan serves as a good basis for the development of friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the states of the region and the world. “Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality reflects the desire of its people to maintain peace and good neighborly relations with other countries,” he said.
In his speech, Professor Sami Faltas, doctor of economic sciences, independent consultant on democratization and security sector reforms in the Netherlands, briefed the participants of the forum about the experience of neutrality in European countries, especially the Netherlands and Austria. He also noted the need for closer regional cooperation in Central Asia, emphasizing that neutrality is very useful in combination with regional cooperation.
Pr. Faltas emphasized that Turkmenistan has successfully combined positive neutrality with its foreign policy, which is implemented on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect.
The event participants also exchanged views on issues of Turkmen neutrality in the “question-answer” format.
