Bishkek, March 24 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev addressed Kyrgyz citizens on the occasion of the anniversary of the People's Revolution on March 24, 2005, the President’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic reports.
“Today, our country marks the anniversary of the victory of the people's revolution on March 24, 2005, which was popularly called the March Revolution, and in the world community - the "Tulip Revolution," he said.
Atambayev said that the main historical lesson of the March People's Revolution was the subsequent awareness of the people that a real revolution is not only the overthrow of the anti-people regime.
“It is very important to protect its gains and not allow destructive forces to return the country to a state of authoritarianism and lawlessness,” he said.
“The Aksy events of 2002 and the popular revolutions that took place in 2005 and 2010 are fateful events in the newest history of Kyrgyzstan. They are like three mountain passes on the difficult and heroic road of the people of Kyrgyzstan to freedom and justice. We must always remember this. Learn lessons from the experience of these events,” Atambayev said.
He also asked people not to yield to provocations of those politicians who, for the sake of their own narrow-interests, try to split society and destabilize the situation in the country.
Two revolutions took place in Kyrgyzstan on March 24, 2005 and 7 April, 2010. The first President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev and successor Kurmanbek Bakyev were ousted from the country.
