Bishkek, July 15, 2022 . /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov took part in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the UN ECOSOC, held on July 5-18 at the UN headquarters in New York (USA).
The press service of the Kyrgyz Cabinet reported that Baisalov made a presentation at the session "Messages from the regions" as Chairman of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the region of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE).
In his speech, the deputy head of the Kyrgyz Cabinet noted the importance of accelerating progress to achieve the SDGs and outlined the role of UNECE as a platform for creating cohesion, improving policy coherence and mutual learning in the field of sustainable development in the region.
Baisalov also participated in the Ministerial Roundtable on "Accelerating achievement of the SDGs by 2030: addressing ongoing crises and overcoming challenges".
In his address from the main rostrum of the UN, he noted that Kyrgyzstan is committed to implementing the international agenda on sustainable development and the global commitment to "leave no one behind". It was stressed that the Sustainable Development Goals are integrated into the basic documents of state development. Baisalov elaborated on the initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic in the mountain agenda.
The High-Level Political Forum will result in the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration, in which the Kyrgyz side was able to include two operative points, in terms of mentioning the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development and the importance of preserving mountain ecosystems.
As part of Edil Baisalov's participation in the work of the Political Forum, a number of bilateral meetings were also held, in particular with UN Under Secretary-General, UNDP Associate Administrator Usha Rao-Monari, during which they discussed current and topical issues of international cooperation.
