Bakashova: 70% of population must be vaccinated to create collective immunity against COVID-19

Bishkek, July 12, 2021. / Kabar /. To create collective immunity from COVID-19, it is necessary to vaccinate 70% of the population or 2 million 180 thousand 417 citizens, Deputy Chairwoman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Zhyldyz Bakashova told at a briefing.

She said that this number of citizens did not include persons under the age of majority and labor migrants.

“Just yesterday, the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine arrived in the Kyrgyz Republic in the amount of 1 million 250 thousand doses, of which 1 million 100 thousand doses were purchased with funds from the republican budget, 150 thousand doses were provided as humanitarian aid from the Chinese government. Currently, we are considering the issue of purchasing additional doses of the vaccine in the amount of 1 million 250 thousand doses,” she said.

In addition, the deputy chairperson noted that priority segments of the population will be vaccinated first of all, namely: medical and social workers, representatives of law enforcement agencies, people over 60 years old, citizens suffering from chronic diseases, and socially vulnerable groups. “In total, this category of citizens includes 1 million 312 thousand 450 people,” Bakashova said.

Note that vaccination against COVID-19 is carried out on a voluntary basis. Anyone over 18 years of age can get the vaccine.
