Baku hosts meeting of Kyrgyz, Azerbaijani FMs

Bishkek, July 2, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ruslan Kazakbaev met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku.

The meeting took place as part of Kazakbaev's official visit to Azerbaijan.

During the bilateral meeting, Ruslan Kazakbaev told about internal political reforms in Kyrgyzstan and measures of the country's leadership to restore the country's economy, the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA said.

The sides noted the need to intensify bilateral relations and take them to a new level.

In this context, the Kyrgyz minister noted he arrived with a special assignment from President of Sadyr Zhaparov to deliver an official message addressed to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

The minister noted the organization of a state visit of Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev to Kyrgyzstan will be a key event in bilateral relations.

President Sadyr Zhaparov took two initiatives that will give a new impetus to bilateral interstate cooperation:

- The establishment of strategic partnership relations and the creation of an Interstate Council at the level of heads of state;

- The establishment of an "Central Asia - South Caucasus" (5+3) interregional platform in the foreseeable future.

The foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan noted with satisfaction that despite the existing restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic, in the first five months of 2021 the trade turnover between the countries increased by 67% compared to the same period in 2020.

The sides expressed strong confidence in continuing active practical cooperation in political and diplomatic, trade and economic, social and humanitarian and other spheres.

Kazakbaev thanked Bairamov for hospitality and invited him to visit the Kyrgyz Republic at any convenient time.
