Bishkek hosts 62nd meeting of CIS Electric Power Council

Bishkek, Aug. 22, 2023. /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Torobaev took part in the 62nd meeting of the Electric Power Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States)\, the press service of the Cabinet reported.

In his speech, the deputy chairman of the Cabinet recalled that this year Kyrgyzstan is chairing the CIS Union and noted that one of the strategic directions under the chairmanship is the development of innovative and low-carbon energy.

“Kyrgyzstan has a high potential for electricity generation. A number of projects are currently being implemented. I believe that today's event will become a platform where we can find constructive solutions that will help strengthen partnership potential and increase cooperation in the energy industry,” he said.

Torobaev also noted that in order to bring the country's energy industry to a high level, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic is carrying out appropriate work on the basis of a decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and signed regulatory legal acts.

“Currently, projects for a solar and wind power plant with a capacity of 1 GW are being developed in the Issyk-Kul region with the attraction of investments from Russia, Kazakhstan and China. In addition, taking into account the equipment and gas supply, the issues of designing and commissioning a combined plant with a capacity of up to 500 MW in the village of Chaldovar, as well as launching pilot projects for peaceful nuclear energy and green hydrogen are being worked out,” the deputy chairman of the Cabinet said.

The CIS Electric Power Council carries out joint and coordinated work in the field of electric power industry aimed at sustainable and reliable supply of electricity to the economy and population of the Commonwealth member states. Within its framework, administrative and protocol documents were considered.

The meeting was attended by the ministers of energy of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and heads of relevant enterprises in the energy sector of the republic.
