Berdimuhamedov calls for depoliticizing problem of coronavirus

The current state of affairs dictates the need for a coordinated approach to combating the Covid-19 pandemic and reducing its negative socio-economic impact, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in his video speech at the 3rd International Forum of Northern Economic Cooperation held in Seoul on Thursday, ORIENT reported.

This platform for promoting economic cooperation on the Eurasian continent annually brings together prominent statesmen, representatives of business circles and experts, international organizations. Countering the coronavirus pandemic were among the key topics of the forum.

The world community was unable to effectively counter this new global threat in a timely manner, the Turkmen leader stated, expressing his conviction that the only way to overcome the crisis caused by the pandemic is to consolidate the intellectual, material and other resources of all countries.

Berdimuhamedov spoke in favor of completely de-politicizing the problem of coronavirus and preventing its use as an instrument of influence in interstate relations. He recalled that Turkmenistan has put forward a number of international initiatives in this area at the UN, having voiced specific proposals for joint work under the auspices of the World Health Organization.

In addition to the pandemic, the forum on cooperation between South Korea and its northern neighbors, held with the participation of President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in and heads of other states, discussed important issues of Eurasian interaction in the spheres of healthcare, digital technologies and the environment.

The "Northern policy" of the Republic of Korea and the strategy of Turkmenistan for the revival of the Silk Road have similar guidelines aimed at infrastructural development, promoting a "green" economy, transport connectivity, ensuring energy and environmental security, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.

He highly appreciated the Turkmen-Korean cooperation developing in many directions, and noted its great potential in the high-tech sphere.
