Bishkek, Feb.2, 2020./Kabar/. Yesterday, Feb.1, Bishkek celebrated World Hijab Day.

The celebration included a large-scale event in one of the capital's shopping malls with raffles, contests and master classes, as well as motivational speeches by various religious figures and activists who support the ideology.

According to the organizers, the event is held in order to establish a dialogue between women of different faiths.

"In Kyrgyzstan, World Hijab Day has been held since 2016. In four years, we have managed to bring together about 4,000 women across the country who supported the event," the organizers said.

World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by American activist Nazma Khan in 2013.

The event takes place on Feb.1 each year in 140 countries worldwide, including Kyrgyzstan.

Its stated purpose is to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab.

Event organizers describe it as an opportunity for non-Muslim women to experience the hijab.
