Bishkek hosts action under motto "Safe food is basis of good health!"

Bishkek, June 8, 2022 / Kabar /. An action dedicated to the World Food Safety Day was held in Bishkek under the motto "Safe food is the basis of good health!" with the participation of famous pop singers, artists, representatives of the food industry and consumers.

The press service of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reported that in December 2018, the UN General Assembly, by its resolution, proclaimed June 7 as World Food Safety Day, the purpose of which is inextricably linked with the issues of healthy and nutrition, overcoming not only the problem of hunger in certain regions of the earth, but also achieving the principles of healthy lifestyles, including through food safety.

The main goal of the campaign is to attract the attention of the general population to the problems of healthy nutrition, increase their awareness of food safety, as well as promote a healthy lifestyle, promote health, identify and reduce risks of food origin, support local producers to produce healthy, environmentally friendly food, products that open access to markets, stimulating economic development.

A flash mob was organized with the participation of dance groups, a meeting and acquaintance with local producers, a conversation about food safety, food poisoning prevention measures, compliance with sanitary norms and rules, personal hygiene, as well as acquaintance with healthy local eco-products and their tasting.

According to WHO, 600 million people fall ill every year from the consequences of eating contaminated, poor-quality food, that is, almost every tenth inhabitant of the planet, and 420 thousand of them die, and 40% of the burden of foodborne diseases falls on children under 5 years of age, and every a year, these diseases claim the lives of 125,000 children.

Also, foodborne diseases are an obstacle to social and economic development, create an undue burden on health systems and damage the national economy, tourism and trade.
