Bishkek, Dec. 4, 2021. / Kabar /. A joint initiative of the UN and the European Union "Ray of Light" in collaboration with ILGERI artists presented the exhibition "Art Abhors Violence" as part of the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence, which this year in Kyrgyzstan is held under the slogan "Korkpo. Toktot. Zhasha!" (Don’t be afraid. Stop. Live)

The exhibition features 32 works based on real stories of women survivors of violence. The paintings were painted by 16 artists from Kyrgyzstan, who passed the tragic experience through themselves and expressed their feelings through art. In Kyrgyzstan, according to official and unofficial statistics, the level of violence is only growing. Dozens of women asks help in Crisis Centers every year. But many do not even dare to do this, victims of gender-based violence are often not given due attention and this complicates the situation. This exhibition is an attempt through art to tell about the scale of the problem of violence against women in our country, the purpose of which is to express solidarity with women and call on society to stop the silent tradition of indifference to gender-based violence.

The exhibition runs Dec. 5-10 in Bishkek in Dubovy park.
