Bishkek, Nov. 16, 2018. /Kabar/. A high-level forum is held in Bishkek with the participation of Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Muhamedkaliy Abylgaziyev entitled “Creating Favorable Conditions for Enhancing the National Significance and Image of the Textile and Clothing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic”, as part of the Sewing Industry Week.
At the forum, will discuss topical issues such as ensuring decent working conditions, reducing staff attrition, as well as the effectiveness of the training system for specialists in this sector.
The forum is attended by government representatives, representatives of the textile and apparel industry, trade support and investment support institutions, development partners and experts.
Textile-garment production is one of the most priority sectors of the Kyrgyz economy with high potential. The industry has a special social significance for the republic, as it creates a great number of jobs.
The National Statistical Committee reported that the average number of people employed in the textile and apparel industry in 2017 amounted to 45 thousand people. However, given that a large number of enterprises in the industry work in the shadow economy, the number of people employed in this sector, according to various estimates, ranges from 200 thousand to 300 thousand people. At the same time, according to the results of the last estimates, it amounted to 300 thousand people. Along with that, according to the results of recent studies, over 90% of sector workers are women.
