Bishkek, Nov.14, 2019. /Kabar/. Round table on the “Respects for the Rights of Patients of Psychiatric Hospitals of the Kyrgyz Republic” is taking place in Bishkek today.
The data of the special study of Kyrgyzstan’s National Center for Prevention of Torture were announced in the course of the event.
Thus, according to the information, the majority of the interviewed patients - 88% said they were treated well by the staff of a psychiatric institution, 6% of the patients assessed the attitude of the staff as not very good, 5% as rude, and 1% of the patients noted indifference.
On the question of the types of penalties applied, 13% of the interviewed patients confirmed they were subjected to punishment and noted battering.
Deputy Ombudsman Yerlan Alimbayev noted the full number of staff is also needed to create good conditions. He pointed out acute shortage of psychiatric specialists.
“We know that psychiatric hospitals have had problems since the Soviet era, but we are approaching international standards. Of course, a lot of things do not depend on us, but we will try to make every effort,” Gulasyl Sutuyeva, chief specialist of the Department of Medical Care and Drug Policy of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic said.
