Bishkek hosts world wrestling surdo championship

Bishkek, Sept. 4, 2023 / Kabar /. Since September 2, Bishkek has been hosting the world championship in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestlingб the press service of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy said.

The official opening of the competition took place the day before at the Sports Palace named after Kaba uulu Kojomkul with the participation of the head of the Culture Ministry Altynbek Maksutov.

In his speech, the minister noted that the world wrestling championship among the deaf and hard of hearing is being held in Kyrgyzstan for the first time. It has become possible to develop this direction in the republic since 2007 with the support of the chairman of the World Sports Movement for the Deaf, Donald Amonds. That year, the public foundation “Sports Movement of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing People of the Kyrgyz Republic” was founded, which is permanently led by Aram Hakobyan.

250 sportsmen from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Armenia, Turkey, Mongolia, Lithuania, Estonia, USA, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Ukraine participate in the championship. There are 16 wrestlers for the national team of Kyrgyzstan. The results of the competition will be summed up on September 12.

All necessary conditions have been created for athletes with disabilities, the report said.
