Bishkek, March 12, 2020. / Kabar /. Bishkek Mayor Aziz Surakmatov was elected First Vice President of the Board of the International Assembly of Capitals and Major Cities of CIS countries at its XXVII session, which runs from March 11-14 in Moscow.
The press service of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office said that Mayor of Nur-Sultan Altai Kulginov became the president of International Assembly of Capitals.
In addition, along with Mayor Surakmatov, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Yuri Mischeryakov, Evgeny Shulepov and member of the Federation Council Irek Yalalov were elected vice presidents.
The members of the board included chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexei Shaposhnikov, head of Samara Elena Lapushkina, Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali Rakhmon and the heads of other large cities.
The meeting participants discussed issues of digitalization of municipal government, strategic planning, ecology and urbanization of regions and cities.
The International Assembly of Capitals and Major Cities of CIS countries is the largest inter-city association in the CIS and EAEU, including 85 metropolitan, regional centers and major cities of 9 CIS countries. This is the only universal platform for intercity dialogue, exchange of experience in all areas, which is a powerful tool of "civil diplomacy" to promote trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural development of capitals and major cities of the CIS countries.
Bishkek Mayor’s Office has been a co-founder and member of the public non-profit association International Assembly of Capitals and Major Cities since September 3, 1998.
