Bishkek, Nov.18, 2019. /Kabar/. On Nov.19 Bishkek will host a high-level donor conference with the participation of Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Head of the Department for Strategic Development, Economics and Finance of the President’s Office Daniyar Imanaliyev told reporters.
He reminded the agreement to hold the conference was reached on Nov.1, 2018 at the meeting of the President with donors.
“Development partners are invited to the conference, about 25 international organizations from 10 countries, which will take part in the discussion of sustainable development issues in Kyrgyzstan. Such topics as regional development, investment climate, human capital development, integrated water resources management, climate issues and emergency management have been identified to discuss the goals and objectives set by Kyrgyzstan until 2040,” Imanaliyev said.
He drew attention to the fact that the conference would result in the adoption of a final resolution, which will define joint efforts and actions to implement projects in Kyrgyzstan.
“The conference will include discussion of our work, done together with development partners,” he added. - Procedures of coordination and ratification of a number of infrastructure projects have been carried out in this direction. First of all, it concerns the water supply sector. An agreement has also been reached on some local authorities. In addition, talks to attract additional funds in the order USD 200 million through the EDB are underway.”
Imanaliyev also noted the World Bank has started the preparation of the project on regional development.
“The first project worth $60 million will be implemented in the territory of Osh. The project involves the development of two clusters: agro-industrial complex and development of sustainable tourism in the oblast. There is also a project for the development of the Dzhalal-Abad Oblast for EUR 11 million and cases for digitalization. As you know, the Digital CASA project was launched this year,” he said.
Besides, he focused on new areas of cooperation.
“In Kyrgyzstan, instruments of cooperation with global environmental funds have been activated. In particular, these are the Global Environment Facility and the Green Climate Fund. Within the framework of these organizations, we can raise funds for the issues of climate change and the environment, and, of course, the Paris Agreement, which recently underwent the ratification procedure, is very important. Through it, we have pledged our commitment to climate change that the Kyrgyz Republic will contribute to reducing global temperature in the world," he added.
In addition to his briefing, Daniyar Imanaliyev said since independence, development partners of Kyrgyzstan have allocated USD 10.5 billion for the development of such sectors of the economy as transport, energy, water supply and irrigation, health care, education, emergency situations, environment and environmental protection.
