Book exhibition dedicated to Mikhail Frunze's anniversary opened in Bishkek

Bishkek, Feb. 4, 2020. / Kabar /. A book exhibition dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the birth of a prominent Soviet party, state and military leader Mikhail Frunze has been opened in the National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic on Feb. 3, 2020.

In Soviet times, the capital of Kyrgyzstan was called Frunze (1926-1991). Currently, there is a House-Museum of Frunze in Bishkek , dedicated to his life and work, as well as one of the central streets of the city named after Frunze.

The book exhibition presents reference books, encyclopedias, books about the life and work of Frunze, documents and others.

Frunze was born on Jan. 21 (February 2 in a new style) in 1885 in Pishpek in the family of a military medical assistant. In 1904, he graduated from a gymnasium in Verny in Kazakhstan. He studied at the Polytechnic University of St. Petersburg and even then became interested in revolutionary activities. The tsarist government of Russia sentenced him to death twice in 1909 and 1910, which was replaced by exile and hard labor.

In exile, Frunze led a circle of revolutionaries and conducted propaganda work in Siberia. On Bloody Sunday, January 9, 1905, he participated in a demonstration on Palace Square in St. Petersburg, was wounded.

During the Civil War, he was the Military Commissioner. In 1919, Frunze became the commander of several armies. A little later he was appointed commander of the Turkestan front, organized and conducted several major operations, fought with the Basmachi. He then commanded the Southern Front, where he commanded the Red Army against the army of General Wrangel. Mikhail Frunze won a crushing victory over him. After that, the Soviet government sent him to fight with the Rebel Army of Makhno in Ukraine. In November 1921, he headed the Extraordinary Embassy in Ankara to establish relations with Turkey, and negotiated with Ataturk.

For successes during the Civil War, Mikhail Frunze was twice awarded the Order of the Red Banner and military Honorary Weapons.

After the Civil War, Frunze was deputy chairman of the Revolutionary Military Council of the USSR and People's Commissar for Military and Naval Affairs, chief of staff of the Red Army, head of the military academy. In 1924-1925 he led the military reform in the USSR. It was under him that the development of aviation, navy and tank forces began. M. Frunze proved himself as a military theorist.

He wrote a number of scientific works.

Mikhail Frunze died in 1925. He is buried on Red Square in Moscow near the Kremlin wall. The memory of the people's commander was immortalized in the name of geographical objects, the names of numerous settlements, districts, streets, squares.
