Bishkek, April 21, 2022. / Kabar /. The book fund of Kyrgyzstan makes 20 million books, head of the department of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan Rinat Bakeyev said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
He noted that the book fund is replenished annually.
"For instance, in 2020, 37,500 children's instructive books were donated to 85 children's libraries across the republic under the USAID's Okuu Keremet project," Bakeyev said.

The representative of the Culture Ministry added that there are a total of 1,065 libraries of republican, regional, district, city and rural importance in Kyrgyzstan.
In turn, Director of the Bayalinov Republican Library Roza Sultangazieva said that their book fund has 1.5 million books, and the book fund of the National Library is 6 million.

"There are 40,000 copies of the classics of national literature in a digitized version in the Bayalinov Library," she explained, and noted that most books cannot be digitized in full format, as it would be a violation of copyright law.
Koichuman Momunkulov, the director of the Book Chamber of Kyrgyzstan added that about 8—1,300 domestically produced books are published annually in Kyrgyzstan.
"The peak was registered in 2020 (1,350 books), but the number of books has decreased in the post-Kyrgyz period," he concluded.
