Border incident. Heads of Batken and Sughd regions talk by phone

Bishkek, Sept. 14, 2022. / Kabar /. The head of the Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan Abdikarim Alimbayev held talks withgovernor of the Sughd region of Tajikistan Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, the Batken state administration reported.

The talks were held in connection with the incident with the use of weapons occurred between border guards on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border in the Bulak-Bashy area. According to the Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, a detachment of the Border Guard Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan discovered a border guard detachment of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan, which, in violation of earlier agreements between the parties, took up combat positions on an undescribed section of the state border. Ignoring the legitimate demands of the Kyrgyz side to leave the territory, the Tajik border guards opened fire. In response, the border guards of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan also used weapons. During a skirmish between border detachments, the Tajik side used mortars.

Currently, the heads of the border services of the two countries are in touch and are working on the spot.

The shooting has now stopped. According to border guards, there were no casualties. The rest of the border is quiet.
