Bishkek, Mar.11, 2020. /Kabar/. "Border issues should be resolved taking into account the opinion of local population,” President Sooronbay Jeenbekov stressed today at the meeting answering the questions of residents of Suluykta and Leilek regions of Batken Oblast.

The meeting took place in Isfana town as part of Jeenbekov’s two-day working trip to Batken Oblast, his press service said.

The Kyrgyz leader stressed that almost all the countries of the former Soviet Union had faced border problems after gaining independence.

He noted there are three ways of solving border issues. The first way is to leave everything on its own. The second is the power method, when both sides solve the issue through a military conflict without compromising. The last one is the solution of the issue through negotiations.

The President said talks with Tajikistan in this direction have been resumed and intensified in recent years, adding that both sides are committed to a constructive dialogue, taking into account each other's arguments.

"All problems should be solved taking into account the opinion of the local population. The strength of the borders is measured not only by the strength of the army, but also by the spirit and patriotic feelings of the people living here. Of course, the negotiation process takes time and cannot be completed shortly. Therefore, not only wisdom is required from us, but also stamina," the President stressed.

The head of state urged Batken residents not to succumb to provocations of various interested parties that appear and disappear only to destabilize the situation and have nothing to do with Batken Oblast. As a result, the residents of the border regions themselves are alone with the problems.

Jeenbekov once again outlined Batken is particularly important in its activities. He promised to continue paying attention to the social and economic development of border regions.
