Branch of Moscow State University to be open in Bishkek

Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov took under his personal control the issue of opening a branch of Moscow State University (MGU) named after Lomonosov in Bishkek, Daniyar Sydykov, head of the foreign policy department of the President’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic told reporters..

Sydykov said that, during the forum of rectors in Bishkek, an agreement was reached on opening a branch of MSU. President Jeenbekov took this issue under control.

On March 27, at the rectors forum, the head of Moscow State University, Viktor Sadovnichy, said that he had six times agreed to open a branch of the university in Bishkek. “But there was no result. This is not Moscow’s fault,” he said then.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic sated that the opening of a branch of Moscow State University in Kyrgyzstan should be made at the intergovernmental level. In the protocols of intergovernmental negotiations of the past years, such an intention was not recorded.

“This issue was discussed in the framework of bilateral meetings of Kanat Sadykov when he was Minister of Education (2010-14) and MSU Rector Viktor Sadovnichiy. This issue has not been raised to the intergovernmental level, ”the Ministry of Education explained.

At the same time, the ministry stressed that this project is interesting and important for the higher education system and for the development of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation.
