Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan takes number of decisions on situation in Kazakhstan

Bishkek, Jan. 6, 2022. / Kabar /. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov held an emergency meeting of the Cabinet.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, during the meeting, the current socio-political situation in the country, which has developed in connection with the escalation of tension and the introduction of a state of emergency throughout the territory of Kazakhstan, was discussed.

The chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers heard reports from the heads of the security agencies on the situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border and possible threats to the movement of criminal elements and weapons into the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Instructions were also given to the ministries of the financial and economic block to take the necessary measures to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the banking system, as well as food and fuel security of the republic.

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov said that in accordance with the decision of the head of state and the Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Kyrgyz Republic confirms its readiness to provide all-round support to brotherly Kazakhstan and, to the extent necessary, fulfill its allied obligations within the framework of the CSTO in connection with the appeal of President of the Republic Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The Cabinet of Ministers made a decision within the framework of the instruction of President Sadyr Zhaparov to initiate an emergency meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh this afternoon.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Kamchybek Tashiev was appointed the speaker at the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh. He is also entrusted to head the governmental headquarters for responding to developments in Kazakhstan.

Members of the Cabinet of Ministers also discussed and adopted decisions on a number of other issues.

The protests in Kazakhstan, which began due to the rise in gas prices on Jan. 2, rose to mass disorders, looting, pogroms and casualties among the military personnel.

The government of Kazakhstan has resigned. A state of emergency was declared in the country.

Tokayev turned to the CSTO for help. The Organization decided to send peacekeepers to the country.
