Campaign against gender-based violence completed in Bishkek

Bishkek, Dec. 11, 2024. / Kabar /. The 16 Days of Activism dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration was held in Bishkek under the slogan UNITE to End Violence against Women.

The Bishkek Mayor’s Office reported that the campaign included flash mobs in different parts of the city, seminars on gender-based violence, lectures in schools, drawing competitions and training for specialists. Class hours were held in children's centers, and the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs officers checked compliance with the rules for the sale of potent drugs.

The campaign ended with a meeting, where the results and further steps to combat violence were discussed. The campaign emphasized the importance of joining efforts to create a safe environment, the report said.

16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a key international moment to call for an end to violence against women and girls (VAWG). It runs from 25th November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10th December, Human Rights Day.

The UNITE to End Violence against Women initiative is a multiyear effort to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world.

The initiative, launched in 2008 under the leadership of the UN Secretary-General, was created to support the civil society led 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign around the world.
