Bishkek, Feb. 3, 2021. /Kabar/. CASA-1000 project construction will begin this year, Acting Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Artem Novikov said at a parliamentary session on Wednesday.
He specified all technical and preparatory works have been completed to date.
"Issues of volumes of manufacture and electricity supply will be discussed together with the Ministry of Energy,” the acting prime minister added.
Referring to the Digital CASA project, Artem Novikov said there is a question of building a data processing center and laying the line itself.
"The Ministry of Finance is negotiating with the World Bank on the technical positions," he said.
Novikov explained that if the project will be implemented under the system of public-private partnership, the budget resources should not be used without return, but if the funds from the state budget are invested irrevocably, the state operator should implement it.
The Central Asia-South Asia power project, commonly known by the acronym CASA-1000, is a $1.16 billion project currently under construction that will allow for the export of surplus hydroelectricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Groundbreaking for the project took place in May 2016 by leaders of the four nations. The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
