CEC head about in what case parliamentary elections could be canceled

Bishkek, Sept. 24, 2020 / Kabar /. The head of the Central Election Commission Nurzhan Shildabekova commented in what case the parliamentary elections could be canceled.

During a press conference at Kabar News Agency, she explained that elections are not held if a state of emergency or martial law is introduced.

“Let's hope that the epidemiological situation will remain stable and we will not have to resolve the issue of elections. In addition, I think that the entire world is already adapting, that the epidemiological situation may still continue: there may be a second and third waves. At this stage, we have worked out a good algorithm of actions to ensure the safe conduct of elections,” she said.

Shaildabekova said that each voter will be provided with protective equipment. “The whole procedure, except for the submission of biometric data, will be carried out with gloves. And the equipment for reading before and after each voter will be processed,” said the head of the CEC.

The parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan will take place on Oct. 4.

The Kyrgyz parliament has 120 seats with members elected for a five-year term by party-list proportional voting. The previous parliamentary elections were held in Kyrgyzstan on Oct. 4, 2015.
