Bishkek, Feb. 24, 2020. / Kabar /. The Central Asian Games will help assess the level of teams in the new Olympic cycle before the Asian Games-2022. Secretaries general of the National Olympic Committees of 7 countries came to such an opinion.
The press service of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) said that the sports competitions were held among athletes until 2015 every two years. In Kyrgyzstan, they took place in 1999.
For the first time, this initiative was announced in September 2019 at the assembly of the leaders of the NOCs of the Central Asian countries of the Asian Olympic Council zone. Then the head of the NOC of Kazakhstan Timur Kulibayev proposed to hold a meeting of secretaries-general to discuss the possibility of holding the Central Asian Games, the report said.
Following the meeting, the general secretaries outlined the resumption of the Games for 2021.
The frequency and list of sports of the Central Asian Games has not yet been determined. In addition to Olympic sports, it was proposed to include non-Olympic sports traditional for the region.
The leaders of the NOCs will make the final decision at the next general assembly of the Central Asian countries. Prior to this, the working group will work out the technical aspects and all aspects of the Games.
