Bishkek, Mar.17, 2020. /Kabar/. Local councils elections may be postponed if a state of emergency or martial law is introduced in the Kyrgyz Republic, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the republic Abdyjapar Bekmatov said at the briefing.
According to him, the CEC is currently working on preparations for the local councils elections in the normal mode. He reminded now the campaign of agitation is underway.
"216 precinct and 19 territorial election commissions have been organized in 30 local councils.
During the specification of citizens in the voter lists, we gave instructions to provide them with protective equipment. We are working to provide voters with protective materials," he said.
The deputy CEC head noted the law clearly specifies the situation in which the elections are postponed. In particular, it is in case of declaration of a state of emergency and martial law.
Bekmatov said the decision on postponing the election should come from the Government.
"Now the sanitary-epidemiological situation is stable, so my personal opinion is that there is no need to postpone the elections," he concluded.
Note that local councils elections will be held on Apr. 12.
