Bishkek, Oct. 10, 2024. /Kabar/. A solemn ceremony of raising the state flag of the Kyrgyz Republic, organized by the Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan, was held in downtown Chicago for the first time.
The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that the event was held following the results of agreements reached with local authorities.
The event was timed to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast, which became an important step towards the sovereignty of the modern Kyrgyz Republic.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of U.S. government agencies, diplomatic corps, Kyrgyz diaspora and business community. Consul General Bolotbek Borbiev made a welcoming speech, emphasizing the significance of this historic event for the Kyrgyz people and noting the importance of unity, traditions and cultural heritage.
An important part of the ceremony was a speech by Lindsay Fair, Regional Director of the Office of Foreign Missions at the U.S. Department of State and Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, who noted the significant contribution of the Kyrgyz diaspora to the cultural diversity of Chicago and expressed hope for further strengthening of bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and the United States.
The ceremony also included the singing of the Kyrgyz and U.S. anthems, and the event culminated with performances by Kyrgyz artists who performed national dances and songs, including famous melodies on the komuz.
