Checkpoint at Kyrgyz-Kazakh border to be temporarily closed

Bishkek, Feb.13, 2020. /Kabar/. The Akzhol-Avtodorozhnyi checkpoint at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border is being temporarily closed due to reconstruction, Nurlanbek Dzhalbiyev, head of the main border control department of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan (SBS) said on Thursday during the briefing.

He added due to reconstruction, the passage of vehicles and cargo at the Akzhol-Avtodorozhnyi (Kyrgyzstan) - Korday-Avtodorozhny (Kazakhstan) checkpoint at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border will be suspended since Feb. 20.

"Citizens will be able to cross the state border at this border crossing point for commercial purposes on foot without carrying oversized luggage and without voluminous hand luggage. Construction work will be carried out at the border checkpoint. Akzhol-Avtodorozhnyi will operate from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.,” the department’s head said.

Dzhalbiyev noted all passenger traffic will be redirected to other checkpoints at the border with Kazakhstan.

"We plan to complete construction work by the end of this year. We will inform you regards to any changes. The Kazakh side will carry out repair work on its territory, while we- on our own. Relevant funds have already been allocated," the chief said.

The following checkpoints are operating on the state border with Kazakhstan in Chui Oblast: Ak-Tilek – Avtodorozhnyi, Tokmok- Avtodorozhnyi, Ken-Bulun- Avtodorozhnyi, Kaindy-Railway and Chaldybar – Avtodorozhnyi.

All the checkpoints are operational 24 hours a day.
