Checkpoint at Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border to resume its work

Bishkek, Nov.28, 2019. /Kabar/. The Kichi-Kapka checkpoint in Kyrgyzstan’s Talas Oblast, which was closed in 2010 at the initiative of the Kazakh side, will be reopened for crossing citizens of the two countries, Chairman of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic Ularbek Sharsheyev said.

He said the relevant decision was made during the state visit of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Kyrgyz Republic on Nov.27, 2019.

In addition, during the Fifth Meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sooronbay Jeenbekov discussed the need for joint reconstruction of Ak-Zhol (Kyrgyzstan) and Kordai (Kazakhstan) checkpoints, and adopted a decision.

This measure is aimed at creating more comfortable conditions for citizens crossing the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border.

The Kyrgyz and Kazakh Presidents also made a decision to extend the operating mode of the Karkyra-Avtodorozhnyi checkpoint. Full functioning of the checkpoint will allow, first of all, residents of Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul Oblast to develop cross-border trade and economic cooperation, including export of their agricultural products to Kazakhstan.

Also, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted the need for early completion of domestic procedures, aimed at changing the status of Ken-Bulun and Tokmok checkpoints from bilateral to multilateral, which will also allow foreign nationals to cross the border at this section.
