Bishkek, April 12, 2023. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan formed the Chessboxing Federation, President of the Federation, Abasbek Dorombaev told at Kabar Agency.
He said that it all started with the fact that the Russian side offered to hold chess boxing competitions in Kyrgyzstan. “We decided to prepare a team. The most important thing is that this sport was able to unite fans of completely different sports,” Dorombaev said.
He noted that the chess boxing is a sport that combines striking and intellectual types, appeared in 2004 in Germany, and the first world championship was held in the Netherlands. “So far, Kyrgyzstan is represented by one athlete, and we will try to have time to prepare juniors. We will create branches of the federation in Batken, Osh, Cholpon-Ata and attract athletes from the regions,” added Abasbek Dorombaev.
In turn, Aliyar Sultanov, Secretary General of the Federation, said that the organization has received international recognition and is now part of the World Chessboxing Organization (WCBO).
“The main task of the federation is to create a powerful competitive team on the territory of the republic, which will represent our country in international tournaments. The team must include men, women, cadets and juniors. Negotiations have already been held with boxing and chess federations on cooperation,” Sultanov said.
According to him, on June 4-7, athletes from Kyrgyzstan plan to compete at the Asian Championship, which will be held in Calcutta. “There will be also a world congress, which is attended by delegates from Kyrgyzstan. The European Championship will be held in Italy. We will prepare hard,” he said.
The Chess Boxing is a hybrid sport, a combination of chess and boxing in alternating rounds. Fights in this sport have been officially held since 2004.
