Bishkek, Feb. 7, 2022 . / Kabar /. The Ombudsman's Institute (Akyikatchy) of the Kyrgyz Republic announces a "Child Rights Protection Month”, Head of the Ombudsman's Office Askat Azarbekov said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
He noted that protection of children's rights is a priority in the activities of the Ombudsman Institution of the Kyrgyz Republic.
"Cases of violence against children and women in oblasts are promptly dealt with by authorized representatives of the Ombudsman in oblasts and are constantly monitored by the central office. Thus, at the beginning of 2021, there were 2 million 381 thousand children under 18 years of age in the Kyrgyz Republic. In turn, the vast majority of children (68%) live in rural areas. Compared with the beginning of 2018, the number of children increased by 69 thousand (3%)," he said.
"Thus, a large number of cases of violence against children is due primarily to the lack of understanding by parents and many adults in general of the full range of grave consequences in the future for the child who has experienced violence, both physical and psychological, since there is a high probability that they will repeat similar actions against their own or others' children in the future. The second reason is the impunity of attackers, as well as restrictions on access to justice for child victims and witnesses.
In turn, preventive and psychological work with parents and their relatives must be carried out on an ongoing basis, and measures to protect children from violence and provide assistance to families and children must be strengthened. In addition, it is necessary to promote the professional development of employees of social development agencies, juvenile affairs inspectorates, other territorial state agencies, and social workers. Therefore, in order to prevent and subsequently systematically reduce the causes and facts of violence against children, the Institution of the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic will hold from Feb. 8 to March 9 a month of protecting children from violence, as well as their rights and interests," the head of the Office explained.
In this regard, the Office of the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic appeals to all interested organizations, NGOs and concerned citizens to report to the Akyikatchy Institute any facts of violence against children.
