Bishkek, Aug. 1, 2018. / Kabar /. This week the activities are held on topics to protect, promote and support breastfeeding around the world, Kamchybek Uzakbaev, director of the National Center for the Protection of Maternity and Childhood said speaking at a press conference in Kabar News Agency.

He said that to protect and support breastfeeding in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Law "On the Protection of Breastfeeding of Children and the Regulation of Marketing of Products and Means for the Artificial Nutrition of Children" was adopted in 2008.

"The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic together with partners and the civil society pursues a policy of introducing adequate practice of feeding young children: putting a newborn to the mother's breast during the first hour after birth, exclusive breastfeeding for up to six months of life, introducing a semi-solid and solid food into the diet of children since 6 month of age and the prolonged breastfeeding (up to 2 years). Breastfeeding of children under 2 years old and adequate supplementary nutrition from 6 months are key interventions to prevent infant mortality, "Uzakbaev said.

He also noted that breastfeeding is the best way to provide newborn babies and infants with the nutrients they need. It gives babies all the nutrients needed for healthy development, safely and contains the necessary antibodies that help protect infants from common childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and pneumonia. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding of children until they reach six months of age, and then - continue it along with proper feeding.

"Also, children who were breastfed have good character and love for parents and the world," Uzakbaev added.
