The authorities of Fuyun combine local folk customs with natural resources, offering tourists specific hotels and traditional food, as well as showcasing the culture of local Kazakhs and souvenirs made by hand by local craftsmen.
The authorities intend to develop Fuyun into a representative tourist destination and create favorable conditions for the development of year-round tourism.
Fuyun is known in China as the second pole of cold. In winter there is heavy snowfall here. Tourists from all over China and around the world flock to the Koktokai scenic area of Fuyun County, which is famous for its unique winter scenery, a variety of recreational activities combined with authentic cultural elements.
Tourists can stay in hotels in the county center of Fuyun.
The authorities in order to make the region tourism-oriented have provided empty mine premises for various guest houses, by attracting private entrepreneurs.
For example, a former mining town gradually became subsidized. Now the idle production site became hotels for tourists.
After the closure of the mine, it turned into a cultural object and is now called Cultural object mine 3.
In this way, the authorities contribute to the transformation of some objects in a cultural direction. Thus, the region can provide tourists from China and foreign tourists with various services in the tourism sector and in the cultural sector.
Fuyun County actively redesigns and transforms the interior of the mine while retaining the unique mining industrial style.
The Cultural object mine 3 currently has 18 areas including an art gallery and various arts and crafts.
One of them is the Koktokai Dream Intangible Heritage Resort, which was built in July 2020 and officially opened in 2023.
Keketuohai Dream Intangible Heritage Resort is committed to becoming a leader in returning to nature, discovering and recording Chinese intangible heritage traditional culture and folk art, continuously exploring the connection between people, people and the environment, and sharing intangible heritage cultural space, healthy life and other fields through its high-end resort hotels.
It covers an area of about 1,800 square meters and the hotel has restaurants, exhibition halls for intangible cultural and creative products, and guest rooms. With the concept of "resort hotel +", the hotel integrates many industrial forms such as hotels, tourism products, vacation destinations, local specialties, cultural heritage displays, ice and snow culture, sports events, and cultural and creative products to create a high-quality cultural and artistic resort.
The hotel serves the needs of high-quality tourism and vacation, and is an integrated new economic format. The founder of the hotel, Zou Yongping, is now a member of the Xinjiang Arts and Crafts Association and a representative inheritor of the Caiju Art Intangible Cultural Heritage Project.
One more hotel is Charlie’s Snow House.: Liu Jiatian, the founder of the hotel is the champion of many skiing events in China and the founder of the Altai Eagle Club.
Liu Jiatian came out of a small town in Harbin and traveled to major ski resorts across the country with a dream of skiing. His daily life consists of training at the ski resort and participating in various ski competitions. In 2020, when he learned that Koktokai International Ski Resort not only had ultra-difficult ski tracks but also natural powder snow, he made an appointment with his friends to come here.
On the basis of retaining the sense of age of the old factory, Charlie’s Snow House combines history with modern literary and artistic atmosphere, becoming a unique B&B that is simple yet fashionable, restrained yet energetic.
In July this year, Charlie's Snow House officially opened. Here, snow lovers can chat in the coffee house, read in the book bar, and exchange interesting skiing stories in the open clubhouse. Liu Jiatian also set up a special studio to provide snow lovers with a place to inspect and repair snowboards.
While running the igloo, Liu Jiatian gathered like-minded snow enthusiasts and founded the Altai Eagle Club, which provides channels for snow enthusiasts who have championship dreams and want to receive professional training through high-end customized coaches and professional lectures..
The Chinese tourism industry, with the support of the authorities, has successfully implemented the best European practices of sports and recreation in the mountains in local conditions. Serious investments have made it possible to create an infrastructure that will satisfy the most demanding world skiers.
Xinjiang authorities have allocated subsidies for the construction of hostels and small hotels aimed at young tourists. The attempt to transform the decommissioned industrial complexes into tourist housing is of great success.
