Chinese FM Wang Yi’s visit to Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Sept. 13, 2020 / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov met in Bishkek with State Councilor, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi, within the framework of his official visit to Kyrgyzstan.

The current visit of a high-ranking guest to Kyrgyzstan during the COVID-19 pandemic testifies the great importance attached by the parties to strategic partnership relations, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

In this context, Aidarbekov expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for significant humanitarian aid and continued support in the fight against coronavirus.

The heads of the foreign ministries discussed a wide range of issues of Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation, focused on the practical promotion of important bilateral projects, the implementation of which was forcedly suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the issues of export of Kyrgyz ecologically clean agricultural products to China were touched upon.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the resumption of freight traffic through Torugart checkpoint from Sept. 8 of this year. It was emphasized that the resumption of mutual cargo transportation between Kyrgyzstan and China is a key factor for revitalizing trade and economic ties in the context of a pandemic, which is a very important step to stimulate economic activity in the Kyrgyz Republic.

In light of the negative impact of coronavirus infection on the macroeconomic situation, the head of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry expressed a request to assist in mitigating the burden of external debt on the country's budget.

Within the framework of the visit, exchange letters were signed between the governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the People’s Republic of China on the implementation of the project “Strengthening the technical potential of fire and rescue units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic”. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to supply 100 units of fire-fighting, special and emergency-rescue vehicles and 15 units of fire-fighting equipment.
