Chinese company creates nuclear battery that can operate for 50 years without recharging

China has invented a nuclear battery that can operate without recharging for 50 years. The development was announced by the Chinese startup Betavolt Technology on its official website.

The company's specialists have developed an atomic battery smaller than a coin, but capable of operating for about half a century without recharging or maintenance. It can be used in mobile phones, drones, pacemakers and any other devices that require power.

The battery is said to be based on 63 nuclear isotopes, which after a period of decay turn into a stable isotope of copper. The battery is absolutely safe and has no external radiation. The basic structure of a nuclear battery includes: a converter, a substrate, a nickel-63 source, and a battery protective layer.
The Nickel-63 diamond β-volt battery is a diamond semiconductor converter and a 63-micron thick sheet of nickel-2 stacked in layers. The battery is modular. The module consists of at least 2 converters and 1 layer of nickel-63

At the moment, the battery is at the pilot testing stage. The company plans to bring the nuclear battery into mass production for commercial purposes.
