Bishkek, Jan. 5, 2018 / Kabar/.Chocolate might disappear by 2050, unless methods of growing cocoa are modified, scientists of the University of California at Berkeley (USA) shared their opinion.
Researchers explain that cocoa can grow only in a narrow strip of tropical forests located at the equator, because in this area the temperature, humidity and weather conditions are constant all year round. However, rise in temperature over the next decades could make these regions unsuitable for growing cocoa.
According to the results of the study, scientists came to the conclusion that due to climate change, it is necessary to modify cocoa DNA to make plants more durable to dry weather conditions.
