Relations between Central Asia and China go back several thousand years. Even today, mutual cooperation between Uzbekistan and the People's Republic of China is at the level of strategic partnership.
The People's Republic of China recognized the independence of Uzbekistan on December 27, 1991. Diplomatic relations were established on January 2, 1992.
Between Uzbekistan and the People's Republic of China:
Strategic partnership on June 6, 2012;
Comprehensive strategic partnership on June 22, 2016;
On September 15, 2022, a comprehensive strategic partnership was established in a new era.
Since 1991, 21 summits have been held with the participation of the leaders of the two countries.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan paid a state visit to China on May 11-13, 2017.

Investments, loans and grants from China.
Since 2011, the most favorable state regime has been established between the two countries in mutual trade. China's capital investment in 2017-2022 amounted to 10.9 billion dollars, including 2.2 billion dollars in 2022.
The total portfolio of loans granted to Uzbekistan by China Eximbank, China State Development Bank and China Industrial and Commercial Bank exceeds 6.9 billion dollars.
For the implementation of 51 projects in 2008-2022, grants from the government of the People's Republic of China in the amount of 246.3 million dollars and in 2022 in the amount of 10.1 million dollars were attracted.
Also, 1,763 enterprises with Chinese investment are operating in Uzbekistan, of which 275 were established in 2022.
Legal basis of cooperation
A total of 283 documents were signed between the Republic of Uzbekistan and China, including: 113 interstate and intergovernmental international agreements, 82 interdepartmental and 88 other types of documents.
