Bishkek, Feb. 15, 2021. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan has clarified 60% of the disputed areas with Tajikistan, the remaining areas are under consideration, special representative of the Kyrgyz Government on border issues Nazirbek Borubayev said at a briefing on Monday.
He added it was not possible to negotiate in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"Since October, after the new government came to power, we continued talks with the Tajik side,” Borubayev said.
The special representative of the Government noted there are plans to organize a meeting of heads of commissions of the two countries in the first decade of March.
"We plan to meet there and solve the issues of our citizens. As everyone knows, the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is complicated. In particular, in Ak-Sai, Kok-Tash villagesof Batken Oblast, as well as staggered border passes through some villages of Leilek region. This is a complicated issue and requires more time to solve. We will definitely try to solve it," he said.
Borubayev added local authorities, akimiats (regional executive body) and citizens who are knowledgeable about border issues are planned to be involved as experts.
A work will be carried out at the level of delegations. Everyone will participate here, including head of State Registration Service, first deputy governor, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Border Service, the State Agency for Water Resources.
