Conflict on border with Tajikistan. Kyrgyzstan begins evacuation of residents

Presidential Envoy in Batken Oblast Abdikarim Alimbaev, law enforcement agencies and representatives of the LSG are currently on the spot in order to prevent the situation from escalating.

Evacuation of residents to safe areas has begun from the area where the shooting is taking place.

Currently, the Tort-Kocho area of the Osh-Batken-Isfana road is closed.

A bilateral meeting of representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is expected.

Earlier, the Border Service of Kyrgyzstan's State Committe for National Security reported that border guards of Tajikistan unilaterally blocked the Batken - Isfana road section in Tort-Kocho area of Kyrgyzstan's Batken region.

As a result of negotiations, at 7:30 p.m. the road section was reopened for travel.

"However, at about 7:35 p.m. the situation worsened due to the use of weapons and fire by the Tajik side on the border units of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security in Chyr-Dobo area of Batken region.

The main exchanges of fire between the Kyrgyz and Tajik border guard units are taking place in Tort-Kocho and Chyr-Dobo areas. The Tajik side is using mortars and grenade launchers," the Kyrgyz Border Service reported.
