Zhaparov holds meeting with government members due to border conflict

Bishkek, April 29, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov today, on April 29, held an operational meeting with members of the government of the country on the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Batken Oblast, the press service of the president said.

Heads of the power structures, the involved state bodies of the country presented the information of the border.

As a result of the operational meeting, a decision was made to form a working group headed by First Vice Prime Minister Artem Novikov to settle and study the current situation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was tasked with continuing to work on a peaceful settlement of the situation through diplomatic channels.

The situation in the Kyrgyz-Tajaik border has deteriorated on April 29 after the citizens of Tajikistan began to install CCTV cameras at the water intake in the village of Kok-Tash, Batken region. As a result of a joint skirmish, residents of the two countries began to throw stones at each other. Subsequently, the Tajik side began to fire at passing vehicles of citizens of Kyrgyzstan from hunting rifles.

As a result of the incident, 22 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were injured.
