Bishkek, June 3, 2022. /Kabar/. The exchange of fire in the Bulak-Bashy area of Batken region was ceased at 2:15 p.m., the press service of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
Despite the fact that at 2:07 p.m. the border units of the parties received a command to cease fire, the Tajik side continued shelling the positions of the Kyrgyz side until 2:15.
During the exchange of fire, one soldier of the SCNS Border Service of Kyrgyzstan was wounded and received necessary medical treatment.
"At the moment, border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are at the scene of the shooting. The parties are negotiating to clarify the details of the incident," the report said.
Earlier, the SCNS Border Service of Kyrgyzstan reported that while on duty in Bulak-Bashy area of Batken region of Batken Oblast, a border guard unit of SCNS Border Service detected border guards of the Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security who had illegally crossed the conditional border line and entered Kyrgyz territory. Ignoring the legitimate demands of Kyrgyz border guards to leave Kyrgyz territory, Tajik border guards opened fire on Kyrgyz servicemen.
An exchange of fire ensued between the border guards of the two countries, during which the Tajik side used mortars.
Later, the Border Service of Kyrgyzstan reported that Tajikistan deployed heavy equipment on the border line.
"The Border Service of the Kyrgyz SCNS records the relocation of military heavy equipment to the border line by the Tajik side. All measures are being taken to prevent the escalation of the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border," the report said.
