Bishkek, Nov. 13, 2018. /Kabar/. Activists in Kyrgyzstan are promoting the initiative to recognize internships completed by students in their specialty as work experience, Executive Director of Enactus Gulbarchyn Suyunova told Tuesday at a press conference at the Kabar News Agency.
Such a step, she said, is necessary in order to support young people in the employment process after graduation.
“Work experience is required from the student after the graduation from the university. What experience can he have if he/she just graduated? "Volunteer" and "intern" should be included in the resume as work experience. We propose that the state should endorse it at the system level,” Suyunbava said.
She pointed out that the problem of employment is one of the most difficult ones for young people, and, according to the National Statistical Committee, in 2016 the number of young people in Kyrgyzstan was about 1.6 million people. This is 27% of the population: of these, about 14% are unemployed. The reason for such indicators, as noted by Suyunbaeva, are the following facts:
- Lack of sufficient experience or qualifications of young people, in connection with which they are employed last at the availability of a positin;
- Difficulty in finding a job due to the mismatch between demand and supply of work;
- Growth in the total number of the unemployed;
- The unsatisfactory state of compliance of the educational system with the needs of the labor market;
- Lack of special programs for vocational guidance, increasing labor mobility and promoting youth employment.
