Jalal-Abad, June 8, 2022. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov gave a start to the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1.
In his speech, the Kyrgyz leader congratulated the hydro builders on the joyous event for the country - the start of preparations for the main construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1.
"Today we start construction of one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in Central Asia, which will ensure energy security and independence of our country! I have repeatedly stressed that energy is a sector of strategic importance for the entire economy of the country, as well as the core of economic growth and sustainable development.
In the context of globalization, the country's demand for electricity is growing. We used to export electricity, but today we use all the electricity we generate. This is why the task of increasing energy capacity is urgent. In this regard, we must properly use the resources to generate electricity in Kyrgyzstan," the president said.
Sadyr Zhaparov also expressed confidence that the implementation of this project will play an important role in the pace of development of the country, will make a great contribution to the welfare of the people and improve the economy.
The event is attended by Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov, Energy Minister Doskul Bekmurzaev, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, veterans of energy, energy, civil servants and representatives of the business community.
The Construction of Kambar-Ata Hydropower Plant-1 project is the biggest energy facility of the whole cascade of Kambarata Hydropower Plants. It envisages construction of a 256 m high rock-fill dam and a hydropower plant with installed capacity of 1860 MW, with average annual output of 5.6 billion kWh and total reservoir volume of 5.4 billion m3 of water.
The construction period is from 8 to 10 years. Commissioning of the first hydroelectric unit of the HPP is four years in the presence of permanent financing.
