Bishkek, Jan.16, 2020. /Kabar/. Batken town of Batken Oblast hosted the coordination meeting on Kyrgyz-Tajik state border issues, headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jenish Razakov, the press service of the Government said Thursday.
Heads of the country’s State Committee for National Security, State Border Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Prosecutor General's Office, local authorities of Batken Oblast took part in the meeting.
Jenish Razakov said that issues related to delimitation and demarcation of state border are under constant control.
"Delimitation and demarcation of the state border is a complex and time-consuming process. The negotiation process with the Tajik side is ongoing, the working groups are working and there is some understanding between the parties.
The Kyrgyz side adheres to earlier agreements and aims to resolve border issues as soon as possible. At the same time, the negotiation process is complicated by incidents on the border, which lead to loss of life and increased anxiety and fear among the local population.
The law enforcement agencies, together with local authorities, should ensure the implementation of a set of measures to strengthen border cooperation and security, as well as effective awareness-raising work among the local population of the border villages in order to prevent any provocations and conflict situations," Razakov said.
The Kyrgyz deputy PM noted that according to the Protocol, signed at the end of the meeting with the Tajik side, agreed options for the mutual exchange of equivalent and equal land plots between Batken region of Batken Oblast of the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan’s Isfara city are being out at several plots.
Besides, joint patrols will be carried out on a number of roads, as well as the installation of traffic lights and surveillance cameras at the intersection of several roads.
During the meeting, Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic Otkurbek Dzhamshitov, Interior Ministry Kashkar Dzhunushaliyev, and State Border Service Chairman Ularbek Sharsheyev presented their recommendations to local authorities.
Kanybek Botobayev, Director of the State Agency for Land Resources, also made a presentation on the delimitation and demarcation process of state borders.
As a result of the coordination meeting, the heads of law enforcement agencies and local self-government bodies were instructed to carry out comprehensive work to ensure public security and order in the border area, as well as to conduct informational and outreach work among the population on negotiation processes with the Tajik side.
A working meeting of Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Razakov and his Tajik counterpart Azim Ibrohim took place on Jan. 14 at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border near the Kyzyl-Bel (Kyrgyzstan) and Guliston (Tajikistan) checkpoints.
The meeting of the two countries' delegations was held as a result of negotiations between Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
At the end of the meeting, the relevant 11-point Protocol has been signed.
