COP26 in Glasgow. Kyrgyz president suggests to provide separate funding for mountain countries in need

Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2021 . / Kabar / . Speaking on the problems, related to the negative impact of climate change, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov suggested that the Glasgow decisions provide for separate targeted funding for developing mountain countries in need, his press service said.

During the World Leaders Summit of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyrgyz leader noted that many countries, including Kyrgyzstan, will need external assistance to solve problems related to negative impact of climate change.

“In this regard, we suggest that the Glasgow decisions provide for separate targeted funding for developing mountain countries in need.

In particular, we propose to create under the auspices of the UN a special fund for the implementation of targeted programs for adaptation to climate change with a focus on the conservation of glaciers, forests and biodiversity, increased preparedness for natural disasters, and socio-economic support for mountain communities, especially women and children,” the Kyrgyz president said.
