Coronavirus surge: Friday prayers suspended in Uzbek mosques

Tashkent, July 17, 2021 . / Kabar /. Prayers on Eid al-Adha in mosques of Uzbekistan are banned due to the spread of coronavirus on Eid al-Adha in Uzbekistan, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan said.

In addition, Friday prayers at mosques have been temporarily suspended.

All other prayers should be conducted in the open area of the mosques, wearing masks and observing the social distance. It is strictly forbidden to shake hands or hug in the mosques.

The Muslim Board recommended that Muslims read prayer at home, and that funeral prayers be performed at home with only close relatives.

Uzbeks with fever, coughs and other signs of illness, as well as the elderly and children, are advised not to attend collective prayers.
