Crime decreased in Kyrgyzstan – statistics

Bishkek, Oct. 2, 2024. /Kabar/. A decrease in crime is observed in Kyrgyzstan, the National Statistics Committee of the republic said Tuesday.

The General Prosecutor's Office reported that in January-August 2024, 25.7 thousand crimes were registered, which is 14.8% less compared to the level of January-August 2023.

Among them, 3.1 thousand grave and especially grave crimes were committed, which is 11.9% less. The main part was made up of crimes against property, which accounted for more than 71% in January-August 2024.

In January-August of this year, the number of crimes against the person in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year in the republic as a whole decreased by 11.8%. Meanwhile, the number of rape cases decreased by 1.7 times, the number of crimes causing less serious harm to health - by 20.5%. At the same time, the number of crimes causing serious harm to health increased by 3.2%.

The 16.7% decrease in the number of crimes against property compared to January-August 2023 is due to the decrease in cases of robbery - by 1.7 times, robbery - by 1.6 times and theft - by 23.2%. However, fraud cases increased by 4.2%.

A decline is also recorded in the number of crimes related to drug trafficking (by 6.8 percent). At the same time, the largest share of such crimes (about 61 percent) is related to the possession of drugs for the purpose of their sale and possession of drugs without the purpose of sale (about 35 percent).

In January-August 2024, 1,494 crimes committed in public places were reported, of which the largest number were theft (34.2 percent), incidents of hooliganism (17.5 percent), and robbery (6.3 percent).

During the reporting period, 13,000 people were identified as having committed crimes, a decrease of 8.2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Of their total number, 14.1% were women, 8.5% were minors, and 71.6% of them did not work or study anywhere.
