Bishkek, April 12, 2021 . / Kabar / . Observers of an Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO IPA) have recognized the referendum on the Constitution in Kyrgyzstan as valid, member of the mission Olga Kovitidi said during a press conference on Monday.
She added the mission members monitored the referendum partly by visiting polling stations and partly by studying information in the media and social network
"International observers note that the referendum held in Kyrgyzstan is distinguished by wide and mass participation of international and public observers. It should be noted that open campaigning underscores the democratic and open nature of the referendum. I would also like to note that during the organization of the referendum, a high status was ensured for the effective work of all participants in the process," she said.
Kovitidi also noted that the preparation and holding of the referendum was carried out in accordance with the procedure stipulated by the legislation of Kyrgyzstan and the norms of international law.
"International observers also note the high turnout, which was more than 37%," the member of the CSTO IPA mission added.
In conclusion, Olga Kovitidi noted that equal conditions were created for campaigning.
On April 11, Kyrgyzstan held the constitutional referendum along with local council elections.
2,483 polling stations were opened across the republic, as well as 48 ones abroad.
Over 30% of the total number of voters must vote in order to recognize the referendum valid.
Thus, according to the latest data of Kyrgyzstan's CEC, turnout at the referendum made 36.75%.
78% of Kyrgyzstanis voted for new Constitution.
