CSTO peacekeepers successfully complete Indestructible Brotherhood - 2018 exercise

Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2018. /Kabar/. The military personnel of six countries successfully completed the tasks of the joint peacekeeping exercises "The Indestructible Brotherhood - 2018", which ended on Friday in Sverdlovsk oblast, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), told reporters.

“I think that the training objectives were successfully achieved. The servicemen and all the personnel who took part in the exercises underwent good practice, showing high professionalism. The management bodies planned all tasks to be done well and confidently managed during the maneuvers,” Sidorov said.

CSTO Deputy Secretary General Peter Tikhonovsky added that international observers were present at the active phase of the maneuvers.

"I would like to note that representatives of all international organizations took part in this exercise, first of all, Military Adviser to the UN secretary, Lieutenant General Carlos Loitey. I thank him and the leadership of the United Nations Secretariat for such an interest in our exercise. We believe that this exercise is another step towards embedding the peacekeeping potential of the CSTO in the UN activities,” Tikhonovsky said.

During the active phase of the exercise, the national contingents of the CSTO countries conducted a peacekeeping operation in the territory of a conventional state that is not part of the CSTO, according to a UN resolution. Moreover, they worked to suppress riots, release hostages and the placement of refugees.

The Indestructible Brotherhood - 2018 exercise, which took place in Sverdlovsk oblast from October 30 to November 2, involved military contingents from six CSTO member states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

The Russian Federation was represented by military personnel of the Central Military District. The total number of participants in the maneuvers was about 1.3 thousand people, 300 units of military equipment and 20 units of various types of aircrafts, including unmanned aerial vehicles, were involved.
